September 2010

Our school year is off to a great start. It was nice to meet all of you at the Open House. If you have not returned your paperwork, please do so as
soon as possible. If you will be volunteering at school this year, your paperwork must be up-to-date prior to your volunteer date. It takes 2 weeks
for the background check to be completed. Please stop in to see me if you have questions.

I would like to welcome the new students and their families to St. Joseph School. Our new Kindergarten students are: Esabella and Mariana
Behnam, Brady Block, Lil Campfield-Huth, Alexander Eich, Zachary Geerdes, Charlie Huppert, Wyatt Kuehni, Isabel Matzek, Aanika Reiff, Mabel
Rohl, Ella Schommer, Delia Warp and Owen Wiltermuth. Sam Murphy is new to First grade this fall.

The St. Joseph Fall Festival is quickly approaching. Carol Mercord is looking for help with the different activities. If you can help in any way, please
contact her. As in the past, each school family is asked to donate a Treasure Jar filled with goodies. These can be brought to the school office up
to September 24. School families are asked to donate $7 to purchase items for the Theme Baskets, which are auctioned off at the Fall Festival.
Please have your donation to school in an envelope marked Theme Basket by Monday, September 20. Thank you for helping with these projects.
We are in need of parents who will shop for items for each basket and assemble the contents by Friday, September 24. If you are able to help with
this project, please let me know by phone or e-mail.

On Friday, September 10, the school will be sending home the School Mall booklets. If you wish, you can complete the address cards and return
the booklet to school by Monday, September 13. This is done as a family, not each student will need to complete a booklet. Each family that
completes and returns a booklet will be given a small prize. Those families that complete all the address cards in one booklet and returns the
booklet on Monday, September 13, will be eligible for a drawing for a Razor Kick Scooter. Shopping on the School Mall website can earn money for
our school. Magazines are offered, but I would encourage you to wait until our QSP magazine sale in October. This is the first year of using this
fund raiser, and please feel free to contact me with your comments or questions.

Please become familiar with the uniform policy for our school. The items to pay attention to are the shoes must be white, black, navy blue or gray
with non-marking soles. All shirts, sweatshirts, and girl’s sweaters must have the school logo. Girls may wear a blouse that is light blue. NO white
blouses. Girls in grades K-3 wear the plaid jumper and girls in grades 4-6 wear the plaid skirt. Our policy does state that shirts must be tucked in
and this is probably the hardest to enforce. Just a word about the out-of-uniform days; Shirts that have writing or pictures on them, must be
consistent with Catholic teaching. ALL shorts or skirts or skorts may be no more than 3 inches above the knee, this includes school uniform pieces
as well.

We will have our first CARE group meeting on Thursday, September 30. Students are intermixed with other school students and assigned a
teacher as their facilitator. We meet once a month and this is the out-of-uniform day for the month. We address how to be a respectful,
responsible student, how to problem solve, service and fun.

We have a new hot lunch program with requires that all money needs to be deposited in the lunch account. All money will be collected in the
school office and credited to your family account. NO CASH will be accepted in the lunchroom for breakfast or lunch. If you eat lunch with your
student or grandparents eat with your student or friend, your family account will be charged. Please make deposits to your lunch account
accordingly. An adult lunch is $3.

Students and parents are reminded that cell phones are to be stored in the student locker during the school day. They may not be taken out
during any recess and may not be in the classroom. Students who choose to violate this policy will have the phone taken away, the parent called
and the parent will be required to pick up the phone in the school office.
